Verruca Removal Treatments Totnes

At Footworks Podiatry in Totnes, we understand how persistent and troublesome verrucas can be. Frustrating, unsightly and sometimes painful – we’re committed to leading the way in finding innovative and groundbreaking treatments for this common problem. We have a range of verruca treatment available including Swift® and Verrutop.

What is a verruca

A verruca can look like a small lump on the skin. Verrucas often form on the soles of the feet and toes. They are very common and are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus which is highly transmissible. Although verrucas are harmless, they can be painful and people are often self-conscious about them. At Footworks Podiatry your podiatrist will recommend the treatment option that is best for you.

How do we treat them?

Swift® treatment

Swift® is a cutting-edge, innovative technology that’s been developed after lengthy research, development and clinical testing in the UK.

How does it work?

Swift® works by using microwave energy which is applied directly to the verruca using a specialist probe. Unlike traditional verruca therapies, the microwaves only travel to the actual verruca so the skin around it isn’t affected. The microwaves cause water molecules to collide with each other and create heat which treats the infected tissue (the verruca).

Treatment is typically carried out over 3-4 sessions and has a high success rate when completed in the recommended time frame. For best results, we recommend that patients visit the clinic for 15-30 minutes once a month for three months.

You won’t need any anaesthetic or dressings meaning you can get on with everyday life right away.* With its higher success rate and immediate recovery times, this revolutionary treatment is set to make all the difference for our clients.

Does it hurt?

Treatment can cause a short, sharp burning sensation, but this quickly subsides and typically does not affect your usual activities*.

Who is Swift® suitable for?

This treatment is suitable for most people; however, we do not advise it for those under the age of 16 years. Our expert podiatrists will help you assess whether this treatment option is right for you.

Verrutop treatment

Verrutop is a revolutionary, topical, liquid treatment that is applied directly to the verruca/verrucas. It is generally painless, although some people do experience a slight, short-lived stinging sensation upon application of the solution. Treatment works by causing mummification of the verruca.

How does it work?

Appointments for the application of Verrutop are generally quite quick and can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes. Your podiatrist will begin by removing or filing down any excess skin around the verruca. They will then apply the Verrutop solution to the verruca/verrucas safely and effectively. Typically this treatment requires 4-6 applications to resolve the verruca entirely. However individual treatments and results can vary.

Your questions answered

Why is Swift® quicker than traditional verruca treatments?

Using microwave energy makes this pioneering treatment quicker than treatments such as cryotherapy. Microwaves deliver highly-controlled energy to a very precise area (the verruca) to treat infected tissue only immediately.

Will I need more than 1 Swift® treatment?

Many of our clients need 3 treatments in total, delivered at four weekly intervals. We’ll assess the verruca and talk this through with you so you know exactly what to expect.

Is verruca treatment painful?

Some clients feel minor discomfort for around 2 to 3 seconds during treatment. This may feel like a burning sensation.

Is there any downtime?

One of the great benefits of Swift® is that you’ll be free to carry on with everyday life as soon as treatment is over. As Swift® doesn’t affect any skin surrounding the verruca, you won’t need any bandages or dressings.

Can anyone have Swift®?

Most people are suitable for Swift® treatment. We’ll assess and discuss this during your consultation.

Is the treatment safe?

This is a very safe procedure that’s been thoroughly tried and tested. Microwaves have been in clinical use for over 30 years and are used throughout the world to treat cancer.
