Morton's Neuroma
Expert Assessment. Effective Treatment. Helping You Walk in Comfort Again.
A Morton’s neuroma is a painful condition affecting one of the nerves in the ball of the foot, most commonly between the third and fourth toes. Repeated pressure or irritation causes the nerve to become enlarged and inflamed, resulting in pain and discomfort when walking or standing.
Many people describe the sensation as feeling like they are walking on a pebble or a folded sock, often accompanied by burning pain, tingling or numbness that radiates into the toes.
Common Symptoms
- Pain in the ball of the foot
- Burning or sharp pain between the toes
- Tingling or numbness in the toes
- A sensation of walking on a pebble or crease in your sock
- Pain that worsens in tight-fitting shoes or high heels
- Relief when shoes are removed or the foot is massaged
What Causes a Morton's Neuroma?
Several factors can contribute to the development of a neuroma, including:
- Tight or narrow footwear
- High-heeled shoes
- Repetitive impact from walking, running or sport
- Abnormal foot biomechanics
- Flat feet or excessively high arches
- Bunions or other structural foot problems
How We Treat Morton's Neuroma
At Footworks Podiatry & Foot Health, we begin with a comprehensive assessment to confirm the diagnosis and identify the underlying cause of your symptoms.
Your personalised treatment plan may include:
- Footwear assessment and advice
- Pressure-relieving padding and offloading techniques
- Custom foot orthoses to reduce pressure on the affected nerve
- Activity modification where appropriate
- Bespoke rehabilitation exercises via Physitrack®
- Advice on managing inflammation and preventing recurrence
- Referral for diagnostic imaging or specialist care if required
Our goal is to relieve pressure on the affected nerve, reduce pain and inflammation, restore normal foot function and help prevent the problem from returning.
