Not every thick or discoloured nail is caused by a fungal infection. Before recommending treatment, we carry out a comprehensive assessment and can perform a rapid fungal nail test, providing results within minutes. This allows us to confirm whether a fungal infection is present and ensure you receive the most appropriate treatment.
Advanced Laser Treatment
Podylas® is one of the most advanced laser systems available for the treatment of fungal nail infections.
The laser works by delivering controlled light energy through the nail plate to target the fungus beneath the nail. Using a process known as selective photothermolysis, the laser raises the temperature of the fungal cells, damaging their structure and preventing further growth, while leaving the surrounding nail and skin unharmed.
Treatment requires no anaesthetic. Most patients simply experience a strong localised warming sensation during the procedure.

Successful treatment involves more than laser therapy alone. During your consultation, we will develop a personalised treatment plan, which may include:
- Podylas® laser treatment
- Nail reduction and debridement where appropriate
- Topical antifungal treatments (Will need to used until the infected nail has fully grown out)

Not Every Damaged Nail is Fungal.
Many nail conditions can look very similar. Thickened, discoloured or distorted nails may be caused by fungal infection, previous trauma, psoriasis, eczema or changes that occur naturally with age.
Before recommending treatment, our HCPC-Registered Podiatrists will carry out a thorough assessment and, where appropriate, we can do a three minute fungal nail test to confirm whether a fungal infection is present. This ensures you receive the most effective treatment and avoids unnecessary expense or inappropriate treatment.
Low Level Laser Therapy
S30 Podylas ™ Laser can also be used for a variety of musculoskeletal problems such as Plantar Fasciitis, Tendonitis and Arthritis.
As it is low level, it does not cause heating and damage to the living tissue and can have the following effects;

Professional Nail Reduction
Regular reduction and thinning of thickened fungal nails can significantly improve comfort, reduce pressure in footwear and allow treatments to penetrate the nail more effectively.
Topical Antifungal Treatments
For suitable infections, specialist topical treatments may successfully treat the fungus when used consistently. We will recommend the most appropriate product and advise you on achieving the best possible results.
Oral Antifungal Medication
For more extensive infections, oral antifungal medication may be recommended. Where appropriate, we can advise you and liaise with your GP regarding this option.
Podylas Laser Therapy
Laser treatment offers a non-invasive option for selected fungal nail infections. It uses targeted light energy to treat the infected nail without damaging surrounding healthy tissue and may be recommended as part of your treatment plan.

Removing the damaged nail allows topical antifungal treatments to be applied directly to the nail bed, where they can be more effective than trying to penetrate a thickened or distorted nail.
